On the Surface

She walked into the gym and plopped down on the bench in the area where we parents wait for our little ones. I've seen her before. She wears strappy little tops and tight jeans and as you can imagine, she's very difficult to miss in a room of moms that look like middle-age moms. I sat in my chair heads down in American Photo and when I glanced up and to the right, I caught this view. I don't normally ask people I don't know if I can photograph them, but I'm pushing myself these days. So after I snapped this shot, I sat down beside her on the bench and learned that her husband died just four months ago. And that her five-year old daughter misses her dad. And that just beyond this sexy exterior... is a gentle soul.

What a beautiful story.
Thanks for sharing what the photo was really about!

Good for you! Finding the courage to ask her permission first, and then actually taking a moment to find out about what was beyond the exterior. Most people wouldn't have bothtered.

Thanks for sharing this pic and sharing this (kinda sad) story. We all envy other people sometimes for the way they look, but sometimes we don't know their story and what is behind the "facade". Good that you took the courage to photograph her.

Great caption....you never know other people plight, blindly we assume.....I can be accused of doing that sometimes.....

This short story will have me thinking twice :)

Really nice. I can't help but ask: why did he die? Because of the story, I care as much as I am curious.
