Motion Experiment #8

Motion Experiment #8 from LittlePurpleCow Productions on Vimeo.

After I finally de-boxed my Nikon D90 several months ago, I vowed to create a series of ten motion experiments to explore the idea of capturing movement. I paused after Motion Experiment #7 and still owe you two more to complete the series. My girl and I had just put the finishing touches on her Tinker Toy swingset when I rolled onto my back and looked up at the ceiling. I love how the waves from the lake caused the shadow of the shutters to ripple. My girl did too.

You can see the first seven motion experiments here.

Motion Experiment #7

Motion Experiment #7 from LittlePurpleCow Productions on Vimeo.

This is the seventh motion experiment in a series of ten shot with my Nikon D90. I'm shooting most of these sequences without natural sound and stripping them of color in iMovie to focus on the study of movement. I was surprised by the hesitation of my girl to really let her shadow run free once she discovered it. Had I shot a still image, this reaction wouldn't have come through.

Motion Experiment #5

My soul sister Toy and I finally connected yesterday. She's an actor, a technologist, a master snowboarder, a parrot handler... and a music maker. I love this girl. We talked about how much I'm enjoying the creation of these motion experiences and she offered to share some of her music with me. I had discovered this visual magic in the rubber bucket before we spoke, but when I listened to her music sequences, this one stopped me in my tracks. Like a great conversation between two people, the elements merged into something electric.

I've been thinking about the idea of creating a new journal within this site to aggregate these motion experiments and more video exploration to come. Doing this would keep this Moment of the Day journal pure with still photographic images. How do you feel about this? Do you like the mix of media in this space? Eventually the still images and video are likely to merge.

This brief motion experiment demonstrates the ease and speed of the human mind's ability to control hands and feet simultaneously.
