My mind is on fire as Jen and I talk each day, mapping out our Dream Assignment. Collecting sources of light and making connections. People. Places. Ideas. Resources. Films. Books. Funds. Shots. Flights. Schedules. Lists. Calls. Stories. Questions. There's so much we need to do to make the most of this opportunity – to attempt to visualize the outcome of the experience in an effort to define all that must be done to make it so. I've managed projects throughout the bulk of my career, but I'm trying really hard to ground myself in the beauty of the mystery of this upcoming journey. To be wide open. To soak in all the things I know nothing about and to share my discoveries in the most pure and authentic way I can. To open myself up to the unknown and to let the experience unfold.

I'm so excited I can hardly breathe. Jen and I, on behalf of our Shutter Sisters, just won the Name Your Dream Assignment contest thanks to your votes, the judges, and contest sponsors Lenovo and Microsoft. Our assignment, Picture Hope, will send us on a year-long adventure to five continents to seek out icons of hope and to share their stories with you in the form of words, photographs and video stories. I couldn't have been blessed by this without your support and encouragement. Thank you for believing in me.

It seems you can't have wishes without the wait. As a child, I remember someone telling me that when you blow the seeds of a dandelion and they scatter into the wind, it means they are off to seek out your wish. I wish there was no wait.

My vision seems to be evolving these days. I find myself stepping back to get a broader view more often than I have in the past. Shooting wide. While so much can be discovered in close range... like delicate lashes, luscious pores, and tiny insects tip-toeing on petals... shooting wide sets the scene and gives you space for stories to unfold. As I consider the potential opportunity Jen and I have to lead our Shutter Sisters Picture Hope Dream Assignment, I'm beginning to think through visual approaches for capturing stories in still image form and I'm convinced that a wide angle lens will play a critical role in the journey.
